Can HDPE Plastic Sheets be used for food contact
HDPE Plastic Sheet is a common plastic material with excellent chemical resistance and mechanical strength. So, can it come into direct contact with food? The answer is yes, but it must meet food safety standards.
1. Requirements for Food-Grade HDPE
Not all HDPE is suitable for food contact. Only certified food-grade HDPE is safe for use. This type of material generally does not contain harmful substances such as plasticizers and heavy metals and complies with food safety standards such as the FDA (US), EU 10/2011 (EU), or GB 4806.7 (China).
2. Common Food Contact Applications
Food packaging: such as milk bottles, juice bottles, and food storage containers.
Tableware: such as disposable lunch boxes, cups, and cutting boards.
Food processing equipment: used in conveyor belts, pads, and more.
3. Precautions for Use
Avoid high temperatures (generally heat-resistant between 60-80°C). It is not suitable for storing scalding food or microwave heating.
Long-term use may cause degradation; regular replacement is recommended. As long as you choose HDPE Plastic Sheets that meet food grade standards and use them correctly, they can be safely put into contact with food. Remember to check the relevant certifications when purchasing to ensure safety.
